About Bidri
Bidri is a traditional metal craft that originated in Bidar, Karnataka. The process involves casting an alloy of zinc and copper, which is then engraved with intricate designs. Pure silver is inlaid into the engraved grooves by hand. The surface is blackened using a special soil from Bidar fort, creating a striking contrast with the silver. Common motifs include floral patterns, geometric forms, vines, and Persian-inspired designs. Bidri objects include vases, bowls, hookahs, and jewelry. The craft is valued for its dramatic color contrast and fine detailing.
